Dit lyk effens soos ’n omgekeerde afkappingsteken of ’n enkel-beginaanhalingsteken, maar daar is ’n duidelike verskil.
Die karakter lyk in sommige fonts soos ’n regaf afkappingsteken ('), sonder ’n kromming. In tale soos Tahitiaans word die teken as óf ʻ óf ‘ óf ’ weergegee – al drie word as korrek erken.
