Moldova is a country in Eastern Europe. Its full name is the Republic of Moldova (Romanian: Republica Moldova, audio speaker iconlisten .) It used to be called Moldavia. It borders Ukraine to the east and Romania to the west.

The official language in Moldova is the Romanian language. The capital of Moldova is Chișinău.

The Russian Empire took almost half of the Principality of Moldova in 1812 and called it Bessarabia. Between 1918–1940 and 1941–1944 it was part of the Kingdom of Romania. It became independent from the Soviet Union after the latter country's dissolution.

The average monthly salary/wages are still low, standing at only US$243. Moldova is an associated country for future membership in the European Union.
