Actinium in 1899 inventum est ab Andrea-Ludovico Debierne, chemicus Francogallicus qui ab metallo qui Anglice pitchblende vocatur separavit. Fredericus Otto Giesel in 1902 separatim actinium invenit. Ratio actinii similis lanthano est.
