Li estis unu el plej popularaj kaj longdaŭraj usonaj distristoj de la mezo de la 20a jarcento. Martin ricevis la kromnomon de "King of Cool" (Ĝureĝo) pro sia senpena karismo kaj memcerteco. Li kaj Jerry Lewis estis partneroj en la tre populara komedia teamo "Martin and Lewis" (Martin kaj Lewis). Li estis membro de la grupo "Rat Pack" kaj stelulo en koncertoj ĉu de teatroj ĉu de noktokluboj, registroj, filmoj kaj televido.
