Thesaurus deler verda opp i både moderne og historiske hierarki både etter geofysiske og geopolitiske kriterium. I tillegg lagrar tesaurusen informasjon om koordinatar, type av stad (by, elv, land), og anna informasjon knytt til historie, kultur, kunst og arkitektur.
