Foi adoptado pola illa logo de gañar o status de estado en 1967 e de novo cando Dominica acadou a independencia en 1978. A letra é obra de Wilfred Oscar Morgan Pond (1912–1985) e a música foi composta por Lemuel McPherson Christian OBE (1917–2000).

Isle to all so sweet and fair,
All must surely gaze in wonder
At thy gifts so rich and rare.

Healthy land, so like all fountains,

Dominica, God hath blest thee
With a clime benign and bright,
Pastures green and flowers of beauty
