Let's be more vocal about the animal abuse that went on in this film. I stopped at 32 minutes when I saw the terror in the horse's eyes as it was whipped and cursed by Benedict, who claims to be a vegan but can't be because he abuses animals. I researched whether the animal abuse was real, and it was confirmed.{{Citation needed}} Later on in the film, Benedict castrates a bull. A disgusting lack of empathy for animals. This film should not receive any awards. I researched whether the animal abuse was real, and it was confirmed. So why didn't you include any of those sources here? Wikipedia is WP:NOTAFORUM and the Talk page is supposed to be about discussing how to improve the encyclopedia article for this film. Even unintentional animal cruelty during the production would be a notable production details if true. I would be very surprised if any of those sources actually met the Wikipedia standard of reliable sources. Also movies are known for faking things. Knowing full well there would be a backlash it is rare that a director would intentionally harm animals. If reliable sources think this is another case of queer coding of villians that is something that might be worth mentioning in the article too, but again you will need to show reliable sources.
Cumberbatch told the New York Times the whipping of the horse was a camera trick and even though he knows it wasn't real he cannot bear to watch the scene either.[2]
As for Sam Elliot, I was hoping someone might have sorted through the noise and found something coherent to add to article but no one seems to have done so yet. For all his criticism of the "evisceration of the American myth" and annoyance at New Zealand pretending to be Montana, he apparently did say he liked Campion's earlier work. Campion's response didn't seem particularly mature either[3] (but aside from name calling she did point out that Sergio Leone made a great many Westerns in Spain[4]) Maybe someone will add it eventually or maybe it is better to ignore it and pay more attention to more serious minded criticisms of the film. -- 109.78.205.134 (talk) 00:39, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
