L'eventu foi organizáu por Bob Geldof y Midge Ure pa consiguir fondos escontra la fame n'Etiopía. Vendío como la 'máquina de discos global', los sitios cimeros del eventu foren el míticu Wembley Stadium de Londres (al qu'asistieron aproximadamente 82.000 persones) y el JFK Stadium de Philadelphia (con una asistencia d'unes 99.000 persones), copn dellos actos acontecíos tamién n'otros llugares como Sydney y Moscú.
