Zhores Ivanovich Alferov (Russian: Жоре́с Ива́нович Алфёров, ; Belarusian: Жарэс Іва́навіч Алфёраў; 15 March 1930 – 1 March 2019) was a Soviet and Russian physicist and academic.
He worked significantly to the creation of modern heterostructure physics and electronics. He was the inventor of the heterotransistor and the winner of 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics.

He was also a Russian politician. He was a member of the lower house of the Russian parliament the State Duma, from 1995 until 2019.
Alferov died of complications from a stroke on 1 March 2019 in Saint Petersburg, aged 88.
