An added suggestion you may want to consider: It is generally not seen as a problem to copy over the infobox as is from an En.wiki article.

Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia

Hi, Kk.urban, welcome to Simple English Wikipedia! Thank you for your changes. If you need help, check out the Help section of Wikipedia, or leave a message on my talk page. Whenever leaving messages on talk pages, please remember to sign your name by typing four 'tildes' (like this: ~~~~); doing this makes your name and the date show up. Also, it helps if you write something in the box that says 'change summary' whenever you change an article. Below are some useful links to make your time here simpler. Happy changing! While most copy paste of their content is frowned upon, Infoboxes tend to be clean cut enough to be accepted. The main benifits are that there is a lot of useful info there (size, pop, dates, etc) and their version is likely more up to date on who is in charge. Attention would be needed for images and logos as En. has many of their own while we are limited to free versions on Commons. This is often only a quick preview and not an issue that gets bad. location infoboxes are not usually flooded with copyrighted info (Television, movies and songs are bad) so issue could be rare. This would lead to a copy/paste for the infobox and the adding of on line to state population in the prose but the outcome for the articles would be huge. Pure Evil (talk) 04:18, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

Santol (Cotton Fruit)‎

I intentionally suppressed the redirect because that is a bad disambiguation for a title. It should have been titled Santol (fruit) as there are no other fruits with this name, or the binomen, as I have done. — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 05:23, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

A1

Hi there, I saw your A1 requests for Luis Molteni, Mico Cundari and Patrizia Scascitelli but deleted these under A4 instead. "X is a Y" type articles are not eligible for A1, because they do have some helpful information in them. However, in case of people like these, there is no claim to notability – there are many Italian actors, but simply being an actor doesn't make you notable. So, I deleted these under A4 (no claim to notability). I hope that helps. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 19:28, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

Citations

When using a=cite templates the parameter |url-status is only to be used to tell the system how to display the original url when an archive url is given. If there is no archive-url, the presence of any |url-status parameter will cause an error and toss the article into an error cat. En has hundreds of thousands of articles with this problem. They are beyond hope.. We have... zero. I fixed 2000 plus and keep an eye on the cat daily for new entries. When you copy infoboxes from them, there is a good likelihood you are bringing the error with the box (4 of the ones you brought over yesterday had the error in the pop footnote reference) Category:CS1 maint: url-status is the maintenance cat in question. It has the info on what causes the error as well as how to set up your .css to display this and many other citation errors. Pure Evil (talk) 22:40, 16 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks ever so much for challenging my wording on the Articles of Confederation. It's been a long time since I took that class and I wasn't comfortable leaving as it was so did some research and you're correct. I've changed the wording. Could you imagine if modern-day Canada tried to join the US based on that? Not that we'd be interested mind you. :) fr33kman 01:54, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Facebook and Malo/Aore constituency

When reverting my change you commented, "Facebook is not a reliable source, but this is the official channel of the Vanuatu Election Office, which is a reliable primary source" But, that is in question. Readers and editors cannot view without a Facebook account. It may be claimed that the FB page is official, but cannot be independently verified. Needs a secondary source. Facebook is inherently unreliable. --Gotanda (talk) 11:28, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

I can view part of it without a Facebook account, but not all. But this isn't a reason to not use a source - there are many paywalled websites and books used as sources. There's no inherent difference between using Facebook or a separate website to share documents - either way the reliable depends on who it comes from. I see that on all the official documents from the website (electoral.gov.vu), such as this document, they have a footer that includes a link to the Facebook account. If a .gov.vu isn't reliable, I don't know what is. Kk.urban (talk) 16:58, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) .gov.vu is not a reliable source regarding things involving itself (by default). No entity can be considered as totally neutral regarding its own activities. :) fr33kman 17:02, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
It's not neutral, but it's reliable. This is just for election results and proof that the Facebook page is actually from the Vanuatu Electoral Office. We can use official Vanuatu election reports for Vanuatu election results, just as official United States election reports are routinely used on Wikipedia for every US election.
See en:WP:PRIMARY: "A primary source may be used on Wikipedia only to make straightforward, descriptive statements of facts that can be verified by any educated person with access to the primary source but without further, specialized knowledge." Kk.urban (talk) 17:06, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

Clallam County edit reversion

Hi, you asked me to clarify my reason for removing the text saying that "Klallam" comes from a word meaning "the strong people." I didn't know where to respond, so here.

I study the Klallam language, and the phrase meaning "the strong people" is specifically ʔéɬx̣ʷaʔ nəxʷsƛ̕ay̕əm̕ ─ the name of the Elwha tribe. I don't know the specific meaning of nəxʷsƛ̕ay̕əm̕, which is (related to) the word that gives us "Klallam." Algæ (talk) 01:35, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

Billy Graham rule

Regarding my deletion of one unsourced, unreferenced passage "is done to avoid sexual temptation," that is what was biased. The presence of a spouse or anyone else does not necessarily reduce sexual temptation. There is no support for that. There is plenty of support for the opposite in life, art, and literature. The deleted claim is biased. I suggest you undo your revert unless you find a reliable source. --Gotanda (talk) 06:16, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Kk.urban, I decided to give you rollback as I think you could make good use of the tool and have quite a lot of reverting experience. It's like undo, but faster and can only be used for edits that are clearly vandalism. If in doubt, you can always still use undo. There's more about it at Wiki: Rollback feature. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for your contributions, --Ferien (talk) 18:03, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

@Ferien Thanks, looks like we both left messages on each other's talk pages simultaneously! How is this different from rollback on Twinkle? Kk.urban (talk) 18:05, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll answer here as it'll probably be easier :P The rollback link on Twinkle is rollback-like, as it still uses the undo feature but reverts multiple edits, whereas rollback in MediaWiki reverts the edit pretty much immediately as you press the button. The rollback link also appears in other places that the Twinkle rollback button doesn't. --Ferien (talk) 18:10, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

A word on your edits

I appreciate your attempts to edit my articles, but I had those redlinks there in order for me to create them later. If you remove them, I'll never remember to do that. SurferSquall (talk) 22:49, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

@SurferSquall Some of those are okay, but:
    • {{Short description}} should never be used on simplewiki. The descriptions come from Wikidata instead.
    • We will never have stub templates as specific as "NorthamptonCountyVA-geo-stub". There are specific rules to create a new stub template, and they are created very rarely to keep things simpler. See WP:Simple Stub Project for more information.
    • Any new category should have at least three items in it (articles, templates, or other categories).

Adding a Section

I'm really new, and am trying to add what I believe is called a 'Section' to an existing article. The article is 'Wave Function, and it currently has just 1 section, 'Mathematical Interpretation'. Part of my problem is that I am so new that I still don't know the official terminology to use when looking for help, so here I am bothering you. The section would be named 'Probabilistic Nature. When I go to that 'Wave Function' page, I don't see anything that suggests a path to the procedures to allow me to do that.

Thanks, VoS SugarplumVisi*ns (talk) 18:31, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

@SugarplumVisi*ns There are two ways to edit Wikipedia: the visual editor and the source editor.
    To use the visual editor:
    1. Click "Change"
    2. Go to the position in the article where you want to add the section
    3. Press the enter/return key to start a new line
    4. There should be a button in the menu bar that says "Paragraph". Click this and it will give you more options. Click on "Heading" to create a new heading.
    5. Type the name of the heading ("Probabilistic Nature")
    6. Press the enter/return key again
    7. Write anything you want in the section
    8. Click "Publish changes"
    To use the source editor:
    1. Click "Change source"
    2. Go to the position in the article where you want to add the section
    3. Press the enter/return key to start a new line
    4. Add your heading ("Probabilistic Nature") with two equals signs on both sides. Like this:
        ==Probabilistic Nature==
    5. Press the enter/return key again
    6. Write anything you want in the section
    7. Click "Publish changes"
Does this make sense? Kk.urban (talk) 18:52, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
Yes, this is just what I needed, thank you. One of my problems, in looking for help, was my failure to distinguish and note that I am only using, and interested in, the visual editor. I saw some info that mentioned those 'double equal signs', and messed around with that for a while (on the visual editor), with predictable results. I've actually had a small edit published on regular WP, using the visual editor, so I'm not totally ignorant...just mostly.
I thought that I read somewhere that you could start an article / section / edit, and then 'save' before publishing, knowing that you need to polish what you've done and prepare more content to add later. That's what I'm planning to do, hope it works. Thanks again.

Correcting placement of a citation

With your help, Kk, I was able to publish my first Simple English contribution, a section under the article 'Wave Function'. I could use a bit of help on 2 other issues: don't know how it happened, but the bracketed numbers identifying the books I cited appear in the PRIOR section, not the one I just published. I'm not sure how this happened, I'm pretty sure that I inserted them right after the text that I added. but the question now is, 'how can I correct this'?

My other question is about 'saving before publishing' an edit. I could not see how to do this, if in fact it can be done at all. My research on the question showed that you can accomplish what I had in mind using 'Draft: Create Beta'...but only in regular Wiki, not Simple English. Is there a way to accomplish this here? (I only use the Visual Editor)

VoS SugarplumVisi*ns (talk) 19:35, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

@SugarplumVisi*ns Hi, your work on wave function looks good. It may be easier to write something before you add citations. Here's how to add citations in the right place:
    1. Click the place on the page after the text you wrote.
    2. Click the "Cite" button
    3. Fill out the citation like you did before.
The citations will appear at the end of the section.
If you want to make a draft, you can create a user sandbox, like User:SugarplumVisi*ns/sandbox. (Click that link to create the sandbox.) You can save something there before you add it to an article. You will see that the buttom there still says "publish changes". That means that anybody will be able to see it, but it's not really "publishing". Kk.urban (talk) 22:38, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
It's hard to get used to being able to edit something that you didn't create, even if the thing you want to edit is something that you added to someone else's creation by mistake. I deleted the book citation numbers that were in the wrong place, and added them where they belonged, so the Wave Function section I added is all fixed now...this stuff is a lot easier when you know what you're doing.
I must be missing something, though, when I'm trying to use the sandbox. When I started to create the page that you suggested, User:SugarplumVisi*ns/sandbox, the 'notice' box on the right had these bullet point statements: a) to start a page called....just type in the box. You can click 'Show preview'....When you are finished, click 'Publish changes.' b) To learn more..... c) If you want to make test changes, please use the sandbox.
I thought that putting content on that page WAS using the sandbox. What am I missing?
Thanks, btw, for your encouraging words about my Wave Function addition.
      VoS SugarplumVisi*ns (talk) 18:38, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
@SugarplumVisi*ns Yes, putting content on that page is using the sandbox. The notice is just confusing. I'll ask the admins to change it. Kk.urban (talk) 18:40, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks again for all of your help, Kk. I should be set now, the edits / additions that I plan for the future will pretty much follow this same template.

Acknowledging help

Hi Kk, I'm the rookie you helped with my Wave Function contribution, and it occurred to me that I should acknowledge the other help that I got, the person that motivated me to make contributions in the first place -- Molly White. Molly, a fellow administrator, has been involved with WP for almost 20 years, and has a newsletter / podcast on crypto & tech matters that I subscribe to. She recently did a post encouraging people to get started editing for WP that included a short video showing exactly how to make a simple edit. After watching it, I decided to give it a shot. Her podcast is terrific, and she is a huge asset to WP...as are you.

Your comments

While everyone is allowed to make comments, your comments at User talk:Phamy1#April 2024 where not necessary. The page has already been deleted as it was not acceptable and they also inserted POV statements on it. You did this earlier on Davey's talk page too stating you do not need rollback rights to use twinkle. Some users actually do or they need more edits than just a basic 15 edits in a month. Please make a better judgement before posting your comments. As a side note, we typically do not list terms that Trump uses to describe people as they are severe POVs from his standpoint and others repeating them and attempting to make a page for it just adds more fuel to the fire and also shows support for Trump which we do not, as wikipedia, do not endorse any political candidate or incumbent. We only state facts, not opinions. If you would, please strike your comment from Phamy1's TP. Also, we have reverted some of their edits as they have introduced POV into some articles. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 20:37, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

@PotsdamLamb Personally, I think that nickname could be notable as a Wikipedia article, or mentioned on another page. For example, English Wikipedia has an article for it, but they also have en:List of nicknames used by Donald Trump. It could also be deleted at RfD. However, I don't think it merits a warning, so I won't strike out my comment. As for adding POVs on other pages, I hadn't realized that, so it is good that you are reverting them.
As for Twinkle, anyone can use it if they are autoconfirmed. I know I used it, long before I had rollback rights. Nobody needs permission to use it. Thanks. Kk.urban (talk) 20:44, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Just a note that I don't have rollback rights, and use Twinkle all the time. I don't know why or where it is suggested you need rollback rights to use it. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:51, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
@Kk.urban As I said, not everyone can use it. It is some change they made. I have to find it again. I think it has to do with a new code they put on it regarding implicit autoconfirmed from another wikipedia. Basically if they are on another wikipedia for a while, they get auto autoconfirmed the moment they join and twinkle will not load for them. I actually need to post about it to their page.
As for what ENWP has, that is fine, but we do not have that here and granted, yes he has a lot of names for everything, some not close to even being nice, however, a lot of them are not simple and would need explaining in simple terms. Also, see Eptalon's statement on the talk page now.
you might not agree it warranted a warning, due to the POV on it they put when creating it, it is an inappropriate page, thus meriting a warning. If they didn't create it with the POV, then yes no warning would have been given for an inappropriate page, and instead a WP:NPOV warning. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 20:53, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
@PotsdamLamb This information about the deleted article is useful to know. I remembered seeing the article before it was deleted, and I knew there was a corresponding article on enwiki, but I didn't know exactly what the content was.
Also, if you do find such a change in Twinkle, I would appreciate it if you let me know, because it seems important. Thanks! Kk.urban (talk) 20:57, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
I just emailed one of the maintainers since I cannot post on ENWP. They are very active so I am sure I will hear from them fast to see what else changed. I will keep you posted. Both users having this issue are coming from different wiki's so it may be something with their status or something else completely altogether. Twinkle Update

@Lee Vilenski and KK.urban - So it should be working for them. The maintainer is reaching out to the user who is verified as autoconfirmed to have them do some debugging to find out why it is not working for them. You are correct in stating that autoconfirmed is all they need for most functions, but not all. I was looking at template code being added to the interface. The conversation can be found at Why am I not autoconfirmed. This is now up to the maintainer and the user to find out what is going on. Thanks for your help. thank you for adding the translation templates

Thank you for adding the translation templates to my pages 🙂 I was trying to do that but hadn't got very far. Irtapil (talk) 15:40, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

CLOSED:

If anyone wants to continue this discussion, you can discuss on another page, because this isn't related to me anymore. Thanks. Kk.urban (talk) 23:16, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Please make sure to open the talk page and state why (per the instructions), however, since you are an amazing editor....

  • Energy Transfer (Ecology) - IMHO: This needs to be under Energy transfer as a subsection. It makes more sense, gets rid of the stub and adds to an article to get it out of stub status. It is also not in simple english. If you want to rework it, I will gladly remove the tags.
  • Interdependence of organisms - This is not simple and shows up as mostly AI generated. If you think this would be good and want to rework it, I am also gladly willing to remove the tags.

@PotsdamLamb Thanks for explaining. I think Energy transfer and Energy Transfer (Ecology) are different topics, so I'm reluctant to merge them. It might be good to merge it somewhere else; I don't know where. As for Interdependence of organisms, it shows up as 7th-10th grade, which isn't too bad. I'm not completely sure if the topic is encyclopedic, but it contains valid information and deleting them will lose that information.
If they're too complex and AI generated, that could be a reason to delete them, but I'd prefer admins to double-check before deleting.
Also, I have now explained why on the talk page, but I don't really understand why that's an instruction. It's more visible to comment in the wait tag itself. Kk.urban (talk) 22:25, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
Quick reminder PDL, as the person who tagged the articles, the w:WP:ONUS is on you to provide a suitable WP:QD rationale as to why these articles should be quick deleted.
An article being suitable for a merge is not a QD rationale. It seems per the above you are using this in place of an RfD. I see you've tagged the page with WP:G2, but these pages clearly aren't test pages. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 22:35, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
@Lee Vilenski At first it was not considered a merge (nor does the tag say that). In the above comments I said possibly but I am not at 50% with it due to other issues, so my rationale stands. To me they are test pages, as one is AI generated. If you have a problem with me, since you seem to follow me around and play admin on this wiki, then take me to the AN.
Also, as I have reminded you numerous times, PING the person you are directing comments to. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:39, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
I'm under no obligation to ping a user unless I'm starting a conversation about them. When I see someone giving out wrong information, it is my place to give the correct information (to the best of my knowledge). I can tell you these don't meet the bar for test edits. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 22:48, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
You are addressing me on a page other than mine, so you should ping. As an "admin" you should understand why this is done. See Notifications for a reminder where it states right at the top: "Notifications (commonly called pinging, formerly known as Echo) is a system designed to inform users about new activity on Wikipedia in a unified way. It provides notifications to users for a number of events related to their account, including new talk page messages, edit reverts, mentions or links. It is intended to augment the Watchlist, by highlighting key user interactions." (bolding is mine). Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 22:52, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Change your mind?

Wasn't this one of the ones that had that odd law and you had two separate articles for about towns vs. cities? Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 05:17, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

They made

147 edits in a short amount of time. I’m about to go through and fix what was right but seems you got to a few before me. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 02:51, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
