Franz Beckenbauer: German footballer (1945–2024)

Franz Anton Beckenbauer (German pronunciation: , audio (help·info); 11 September 1945 – 7 January 2024) was a German professional footballer and manager.

Franz was often called Der Kaiser ("The Emperor"). He was regarded to be one of the greatest players in the history of football. Franz was often credited for inventing the role of the modern sweeper (libero).
