Buddhism is the largest religion in Mongolia and is practiced by more than half of the people there.
Buddhism in Mongolia began with the conversion of Yuan dynasty emperors to Tibetan Buddhism. The Mongols returned to shaman traditions after the fall of the Mongol Empire, but Buddhism became popular again in the 16th and 17th centuries.
