Çatalhöyük: Archaeological site in Konya Province, Turkey
Çatalhöyük was a very large Neolithic and Chalcolithic settlement in southern Anatolia, which existed from approximately 7500 BC to 5700 BC.
It is the largest and most well preserved Neolithic site found to date. The site is in Turkey. The population was about 6,000 and the food they ate was mainly wheat, barley and rice. Catal Huyuk had no roads, so dwellings were accessed via hatches or trap doors in the roofs of the buildings, which were in turn entered via ladders. No trace of a central government has ever been found at Çatalhöyük. In July 2012, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 37°40′3″N 32°49′42″E / 37.66750°N 32.82833°E
