The oreegin o Al Sadd's conception began wi fower Qatari students whae excelled in fitbaw, but did no wish tae jyn ony o the existin fitbaw clubs. Efter consultin wi the meenister o Youth an Sports, the group, led by Nasser bin Mubarak Al Ali, founded the club on 21 October 1969 in Qatar's capital city.

In the 1989 season, they became the first Arab club side to triumph in the Asie Club Championship bi defeatin Al Rasheed o Iraq on an aggregate o awa goals. Twinty-three years later they wur ance again victorious in the tap regional competeetion, nou kent as the AFC Champions League, earnin a spot in the FIFA Club Warld Cup. They feenished third, becomin the first Wast Asie side tae claim third place in the competeetion.
