Stieg Larsson: Swedish author

Karl Stig-Erland Stieg Larsson (15 August 1954 – 9 November 2004) was a Swedish journalist and writer.

He became best known after his death for his Millennium trilogy of crime novels. His books were published from 2005 to 2007. The series was made into three movies in Sweden and one in the United States. After his death in 2004, David Lagercrantz continued the series. As a journalist, Larsson's work covered socialist politics. He was an independent researcher of right-wing extremism.

Larsson was born in Skelleftehamn. In the 1970s, he changed the spelling of his first name to "Stieg" as his friend, Stig Larsson, was already a well-known writer. His partner of thirty years was Eva Gabrielsson.

Larsson died of a heart attack in Stockholm on 9 November 2004. He was 50.
