Niklaus Emil Wirth (15 February 1934 – 1 January 2024) was a Swiss computer scientist.
He was best known for designing several programming languages, including Pascal, and for creating several classic topics in software engineering.

In 1984 he won the Turing Award, which is seen as the highest award in computer science. He won the award for creating a sequence of important computer languages.
Wirth died on 1 January 2024 at the age of 89.
