History
When the Ain department was created on 1800, the arrondissement of Nantua was part of that original department.
Geography
It is found in the northern half of the department with an area of 837.0 km2 (323.2 sq mi). It has 84,640 inhabitants and a density of 101.1 inhabitants/km².
The arrondissement of Nantua is bordered to the north by the Jura department, to the northeast by the arrondissement of Gex, to the east by the Haute-Savoie department, to the south by the arrondissement of Belley and to the west by the arrondissement of Bourg-en-Bresse.
