The movie is about depressed journalist Tom Junod accepts an assignment to write an Esquire profile on Fred Rogers and Junod's views on life changed after his encounter with Mister Rogers.
Filming began in September 2018 in Pittsburgh. It was released on November 22, 2019 by TriStar Pictures. For his role as Mr. Rogers, Hanks was nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and BAFTA Award.
