It is the world's largest and most widespread religion with roughly 2.4 billion followers, comprising around 31.2% of the world population . Its adherents, known as Christians , are estimated to make up a majority of the population in 157 countries and territories . Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God , whose coming as the Messiah was prophesied in the Hebrew Bible (called the Old Testament in Christianity) and chronicled in the New Testament .
Christianity remains culturally diverse in its Western and Eastern branches , and doctrinally diverse concerning justification and the nature of salvation , ecclesiology , ordination , and Christology . The creeds of various Christian denominations generally hold in common Jesus as the Son of God—the Logos incarnated —who ministered , suffered , and died on a cross , but rose from the dead for the salvation of humankind; and referred to as the gospel , meaning the "good news". The four canonical gospels of Matthew , Mark , Luke and John describe Jesus's life and teachings, with the Old Testament as the gospels' respected background.
The six major branches of Christianity are Roman Catholicism (1.3 billion people), Protestantism (900 million), Eastern Orthodoxy (220 million), Oriental Orthodoxy (60 million), Restorationism (35 million), and the Church of the East (600 thousand). Smaller church communities number in the thousands despite efforts toward unity (ecumenism ). In the West , Christianity remains the dominant religion even with a decline in adherence , with about 70% of that population identifying as Christian. Christianity is growing in Africa and Asia , the world's most populous continents. Hilary c. 1110–1169) was a medieval bishop of Chichester in England . English by birth, he studied canon law and worked in Rome as a papal clerk. During his time there, he became acquainted with a number of ecclesiastics, including the future Pope Adrian IV , and the writer John of Salisbury . In England, he served as a clerk for Henry of Blois , who was the bishop of Winchester and brother of King Stephen of England . After Hilary's unsuccessful nomination to become Archbishop of York , Pope Eugene III compensated him by promoting him to the bishopric of Chichester in 1147.
Hilary spent many years in a struggle with
Battle Abbey , attempting to assert his right as bishop to oversee the abbey. He also clashed with
Thomas Becket , then chancellor to King
Henry II of England , later
Archbishop of Canterbury ; Hilary supported King Henry II's position in the conflict with Becket. Henry appointed Hilary as sheriff and employed him as a judge in the royal courts. The papacy also used Hilary as a
judge-delegate , to hear cases referred back to England. Known for supporting his clergy and as a
canon lawyer , or someone trained in
ecclesiastical law , Hilary worked to have
Edward the Confessor , a former English king,
canonised as a

"Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride first season of the American animated sitcom South Park Comedy Central in the United States on September 3, 1997. The episode was written by series co-founders Trey Parker and Matt Stone , and directed by Parker. In this episode, Stan 's dog, Sparky, is revealed to be gay after humping a rival male dog. Under peer pressure, Stan tries to make him more masculine, and as a result, Sparky runs away and ends up at Big Gay Al 's Big Gay Animal Sanctuary. Stan comes to understand homosexuality and tries to make everyone in South Park accept it.
"Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride" addressed
open homosexuality in a way that was uncommon for television at the time, which created some anxiety among executives at Comedy Central. The network initially objected to offensive remarks made by sports commentators in the episode, but the comments were kept in at the insistence of Parker and Stone. Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny's designs were changed slightly in this episode and these designs would remain for the rest of the series.
George Clooney made a guest appearance as Sparky, a small role with no dialog except for dog barks. The episode also marked the first appearance of Big Gay Al. (

Saint Paul Writing His Epistles The Pauline epistles Epistles of Paul , or Letters of Paul , are the thirteen New Testament books which have the name Paul (Παῦλος) as the first word, hence claiming authorship by Paul the Apostle . Among these letters are some of the earliest extant Christian documents. They provide an insight into the beliefs and controversies of early Christianity and as part of the canon of the New Testament they are foundational texts for both Christian theology and ethics .
