Bram Stoker Award: Literaturpreis

Die Gewinner werden per Wahl von den Mitgliedern der HWA bestimmt. Der Name wurde zum Gedenken an Bram Stoker, den Autor des Romans Dracula, gewählt.

Einigen Mitgliedern der HWA, einschließlich Dean Koontz, widerstrebte es zunächst, eine solche Auszeichnung ins Leben zu rufen, da man fürchtete, dass dies zu Konkurrenzverhalten führen könnte. Daher einigte man sich, insbesondere neue und bislang vernachlässigte Autoren zu würdigen. Außerdem sollte nicht nur ein Autor als „Bester des Jahres“, sondern es sollen herausragende Leistungen auf verschiedenen Gebieten geehrt werden.
