Britannica at the Encyclopædia Britannica
This template can be used to provide a link to the Encyclopædia Britannica's article on a given subject.
Add the following to the "External links" section of an article:
* {{Britannica|| }}
is a numerical value given in the html source of the Britannica article in question. It can be seen at topicId:
around line 70. See for example How to view the HTML source code of a web page if you need help with this. The source of https://www.britannica.com/science/pancreas says topicId: 440971
so it would use:
* {{Britannica|440971}}
It produces a link with the url https://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/440971/pancreas. It currently redirects to https://www.britannica.com/science/pancreas but that url may be less stable and cannot be produced by this template. When the template was originally made, britannica.com included
in the normal url.
provides an optional title for the link in place of the name of the Wikipedia article, in case the Britannica article has a different name for some reason (i.e. a Latin rather than a common name): For example, the Wikipedia article for the common Daffodil is titled Narcissus pseudonarcissus, while Britannica uses Daffodil and says topicId:149590
in the source. As such, the link would be formatted as follows:
* {{Britannica|149590|Daffodil}}
