The Siege of Vicksburg was a major battle of the American Civil War.

It took place in Mississippi from May 18 to July 4, 1863. Union general Ulysses S. Grant surrounded the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The Confederate Army, commanded by John C. Pemberton, surrendered on July 4. Now the Union forces controlled the Mississippi River.
