Domenico Modugno: Italian singer, actor and politician (1928–1994)

Domenico Modugno (Italian pronunciation: ; 9 January 1928 – 6 August 1994) was an Italian folk pop singer-songwriter, actor, guitarist, and politician.

He was a member of the Italian Parliament from 1987 until 1992. He was known for his 1958 international hit song "Nel blu dipinto di blu" for which he won two Grammy Awards. Modugno was born in Polignano a Mare, Italy. He was a member of the Radical Party.

He represented Italy at the 1958 Eurovision Song Contest, coming in third place.

Modugno died on 6 August 1994 at his home in Lampedusa, Italy from a heart attack caused by a stroke, aged 66.
