Burt Bacharach: American pianist, composer, producer (1928–2023)

Burt Freeman Bacharach (May 12, 1928 – February 8, 2023) was an American composer, singer, songwriter, and music producer.

He wrote many hit songs. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He won three Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, two Grammy Awards and one BAFTA Award during his career.

Some songs were written specifically for the singers who originally recorded them. Some of his songs were:

  • "Walk On By"; originally released by Dionne Warwick in 1964 and has since been covered by other artists over the years.
  • "Alfie"; written for the movie of the same name and nominated for an Academy Award for best original song
  • "What's New Pussycat?"; written for the movie of the same name and nominated for an Academy Award for best original song, made famous by Tom Jones.
  • "I Say a Little Prayer"; written for Dionne Warwick and later made famous by Aretha Franklin.
  • "The Look of Love"; from the movie Casino Royale; nominated for an Academy Award for best original song
  • "Do You Know the Way to San Jose"; written for Dionne Warwick
  • "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head"; from the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid; won an Academy Award for best original song. Bacharach also won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for the score to this movie.
  • "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)"; from the movie Arthur; won an Academy Award for best original song.

Bacharach died on February 8, 2023 at his Los Angeles home from natural causes. He was 94 years old.
