Freddie Hubbard
Frederick Dewayne «Freddie» Hubbard (født 7.
april">7. april 1938, død 29. desember 2008) var en amerikansk jazztrompetist. Han var først og fremst kjent for å spille bebop, hard bop og post bop fra det tidlige 1960-tallet og fremover. Hans lett gjenkjenbare tone bidro til nye perspektiver innen moderne jazz og bebop.

Biografi
Tidlig karriere
Hubbard startet å spille mellofon og trompet i skolebandet sitt. I tenårene startet han å spille med brødrene Wes og Monk Montgomery, bassisten Larry Ridley og saksofonisten James Spaulding. I 1958, i en alder av 20 år, flyttet han til New York City og startet å spille med datidens beste jazzmusikere inkludert Philly Joe Jones, Sonny Rollins, Slide Hampton, Eric Dolphy, J.J. Johnson, og Quincy Jones. I juni 1960 spilte Hubbard in sitt første album som bandleder sammen med saksofonisten Tina Brooks, pianisten McCoy Tyner, bassisten Sam Jones, og trommeslageren Clifford Jarvis. I desember 1960 ble Hubbard invitert til å spille med Ornette Colemans album Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation etter at Coleman hadde hørt han spille med Don Cherry.
I august 1961 spilte Hubbard inn en av sine mest kjente album, Ready for Freddie som samtidig var hans første samarbeid med Wayne Shorter. Senere ble Hubbard med i Art Blakeys Jazz Messengers sammen med Shorter. Han spilte på flere av Blakeys album, blant annet Caravan, Ugetsu, Mosaic, og Free For All.
