As a WikiGnome, I like to tag talk pages with missing WikiProjects. However, there are some generic titles, e.g., Music journalism, that should be tagged but no tag or subproject as listed in {{WikiProject Music/Related WikiProjects}} exists. I recall that {{WikiProject Music}} was deleted because people did not make the effort to find the right tag/project, so a generic taskforce could lead to the same problem. I still suggest resurrecting {{WikiProject Music|generic=yes}} with the |generic= or otherly named option, but with an error if no options are specified. Indeed, the lack of options would produce a message to look for the right subproject as listed in {{WikiProject Music/Related WikiProjects}}. I'm not a music specialist but have ended up fretting about the sourcing of Lithuanian folk music, created in 2018 with just the one reference "Cronshaw, pgs. 22 – 23", which has still been its only ref until I added another today. The article was created by a now-indef-blocked editor. It looks as if the source might refer to the single "Reference" in Music of Lithuania, "Cronshaw, Andrew (2000). "Singing Revolutions". In Broughton, Simon; Ellingham, Mark; McConnachie, James; Duane, Orla (eds.). World Music, Vol. 1: Africa, Europe and the Middle East. London: Rough Guides. pp. 16–24. ISBN 1-85828-636-0.", which was there in 2018 and is there today (along with plenty of other references under "Notes"), but that ISBN now seems to belong to Rough Guide to World Music vol2, which doesn't cover Europe, and pages 16-24 of which are about Australia. Has anyone got a copy of Rough Guide to World Music vol1, and could check whether the ref actually makes sense as 16-24 of that, and how much of this article it actually sources? If so, please clarify the ref appropriately. Thanks.

There I was, working through a list of women archaeologists checking that they had all necessary incoming redirects or surname list entries, for WP:WIR-301, but Jehane Ragai led me down this rabbit-hole into trying to disentangle what we knew about "ragai" as a musical instrument (or instruments?). The answer was "nothing except its existence", and the same, as far as I can see, in Lithuanian Wiki, but I found a source which did actually have a paragraph about Ragai and similar amounts about other wind instruments, so I added it, with a quote, at the top of the section Lithuanian folk music#Instruments. (And meanwhile, boxes from a house move 6 months ago remain un-unpacked.) PamD 17:10, 3 March 2024 (UTC)

Hello, WikiProject members,

I was reviewing expiring drafts (CSD G13s) and came across this one for a musical instrument I had never heard of and of which the English Wikipedia has no coverage. The draft creator supplied some sources that look promising and so I postponed its deletion. I think, at the least, there is a stub article here. I went to Wiki: WikiProject Musical Instruments to see if anyone would like to work on this draft but that WikiProject looks dormant so I came here, hoping that an editor experienced in content creation might take it on as a project. Can we illustrate the music genre articles with tracks we have generated using Udio? In other words, is the licence for the tracks generated on the Udio platform allows to share, modify and sell the tracks? I have read the terms of service but it's not clear. My immediate instinct is to say no given the potential copyright hell that AI generation represents and just how cautious Wikipedia is about use of copyrighted/non-free material. I'm sure there have been larger discussions on this matter elsewhere on the site which could give more insight, but I imagine at least some part of the conclusion there would be that it's not worth the risk of COPYVIO. I agree with QuietHere – if neither of you are certain about the legal implications, and presumably very few people are right now, then it's best to steer clear of all this. In addition, I can imagine that it would result in the same kind of genre wars that we already have on Wiki English... someone deciding that somebody else's creation is not an accurate representation of a genre, and editors competing to upload the most "authentic" version of a genre. Pretty much my thoughts too. Beyond the WP:COPYVIO concerns, there's the classic "just because we could doesn't mean we should" argument Richard touches on - I scrolled through the first 50-100 images and didn't see anything remotely useful for image illustration on Wikipedia beyond something you'd use an example on the AI article itself. I did understand that the original question was about music samples, and that's why my statement stands – it basically depends on an editor's subjective view of what a genre sounds like, and is subject to argument from other editors... quite apart from the legal ramifications, it just sounds like OR to me. I think this is already ready for mainspace. I would fill in or remove the empty sections first (probably easier to remove since other than personnel, most of that info probably isn't available yet), but otherwise I think notability is shown clearly here.
