2013 Major League Soccer Season Table

In seasons prior to 2012, the single table was used for cross-over placement.

Do we need a single table

That ceased to be an issue in 2012 and no announcement on changing this for 2013 has been made. Why do we need this table? --Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:03, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

It's only useful for having an easy comparison for Supporter's Shield purposes. The MLS still has it on their website under the title "Supporter's Shield Race." --Mathboy965 (talk) 22:52, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Essentially, everything other than first place is superfluous and can be safely removed. In order to see who is in first place, you simply need to look at the season article where both are listed. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:13, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Canadian teams

Should there be notes about how Canadian teams qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League? --Coppercanuck (talk) 21:38, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

I've been pushing for the Canadian Championship to be put on the overall table. But since we have a denotation on how Canadian teams qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League, we should really have a visual on which team is going. --Tychu9 (talk) 13:45,14 July 2013 (UTC)

Disciplinary Standings Tie Breaker

MLS does not have an up to date disciplinary standings table for use with tie breakers. However, they do have foul statistics for each team reflecting number of fouls, yellow cards, and red cards. These statistics show (as of 21 May 2013) that Dallas has a better disciplinary record than New York, and thus hold the 4th tie-breaker over New York. Unfortunately, the mlssoccer.com reference of the Supporters' Shield Standings does not reflect this. Since Dallas and New York are tied on the first three tie-breakers, Dallas should be ranked ahead of New York in the Single Table. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Belegorn (talkcontribs) 23:33, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

The only problem is that it's not the end of the season, and we do have a RS to look at: http://www.mlssoccer.com/standings/supporters-shield. It clearly states that NY is in first with Dallas in second. There is either an un-written rule for mid-season points, or they are (as has been the case in the past) wrong. I don't like going against the source. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:39, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
There is a third option: they changed the tie-breaking procedure and haven't said anything, so I will change it back to source. It will probably won't matter after this weekend, anyway.Belegorn (talk) 04:46, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

Errors on MLS sites

It seems MLS has been posting erroneous tiebreaks on its own site again (ranked Toronto ahead of Chivas) where Chivas was ahead on tiebreaker of most wins. I'd like to apply WP:CALC again and not blindly rely on their clear error. I am opening this up for debate. When a source is clearly wrong, can we simply correct it under WP:CALC? Nlsanand (talk) 17:32, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

The source is correct in this case. TFC and Chivas both have 11 points while TFC has more goals for which is the first tie break.
They have been wrong in this past though and CALC can be used in these cases. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:43, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
Sorry. Most Wins not Goals for is tie break. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:44, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Seems the season table is showing non-season results

https://www.duhoctrungquoc.vn/wiki/index.php?lang=en&q=Template:2013_Major_League_Soccer_season_table&diff=647055149&oldid=631249478 adds Canadian Chapionship results to the league table, but that wasn't decided in the 2013 season. Also, DC were last year's CC champions which is why they qualified and so to list them in the league table is a second problem. The runners-up to the playoff and western champions also were not part of league play. All should be removed Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:22, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
