On 22 September 2022, it was proposed that this article be moved from 2022 Western Mexico earthquake to 2022 Michoacán earthquake. The result of the discussion was moved. |
2022 Western Mexico earthquake → 2022 Michoacán earthquake – Should be renamed to 2022 Michoacan earthquake, Michoacan is a more suitable and appropriately specific name meanwhile Western Mexico is too generalized and points out to a large portion of land. Also does not comply with the other Mexican earthquake articles which use state names as their article name. Reego41 08:30, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
Support I think most Mexican earthquake articles follow a standard naming whereby it's "[Year] [State] earthquake". It applies to locally and widespread destructive earthquakes. Some exceptions apply but there's no reason why this article has to be exempted. Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 09:20, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
Support For the same reason as Dora the Axe-plorer, I also agree with you. Filipinohere (talk 10:09, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
Support Similar to what Dora the Axe-plorer said, most location names for events generally rely on the main focus of damage and imapct, as well as by common toungue in local reports. Moctiwiki (moctalk to me) 11:00, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

Support Most of the arguments have been hashed out already, and I agree that the location name is just too vague and general. SamBroGaming (talk) 17:42, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
Honestly, I think It should be renamed to make things more consistent, as most Mexico earthquake Wikipedia articles are named after the state Quake1234 (talk) 22:18, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
Support, obviously. Epicenter in Michoacán. Look at the others listed in the infobox(es). Moscow Mule (talk) 03:23, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
Support: I think it should be changed because it is not specific enough. Bdonjctalk 05:45, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
The consensus is clear, can someone close this discussion? Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 07:11, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
