Film Durgi

Ravi Shankar">P. Ravi Shankar who made his directorial debut. The film stars Malashri in the lead role. The film is about a female rowdy seeking revenge against politicians who raped and killed her sister. The film was officially remade in 2005 in Telugu as Narasimhudu starring Jr. NTR. In 2008, the film was dubbed in Hindi as Main Hoon Durga and in Malayalam as Bhasmasuran.

The movie starts with Jayadev aka J.D (Raghuvaran),a business tycoon is to get arrested by police with the help of his old friend cum business partner Marigudi (Kalabhavan Mani), a notorious goon, who is his rival now. Marigudi brilliantly uses M.L.A Chandrappa to witness against J.D in the exchange of money. J.D and his son kills the M.L.A by knowing from somewhere. J.D wants to make his son Rahul candidate in the elections against Marigudi's brother Naga (G. V. Sudhakar Naidu). To end the duo's rivalry Government appoints new Police commissioner Shankar (Ashish Vidyarthi) to Bangalore. Shankar is a sincere and tough police officer who obeys the law and would not spare anyone who is corrupt to the law. One day he arrests a young woman named Durgi(Malashri) for thrashing the goons in Majestic Bus stand. After getting to know that Durgi had beaten the goons for molesting a young girl in the bus. The young girl, and her parents accompanies Durgi, her grandmather and her village master to their housing colony. Durgi is came from Madikeri to seek revenge against J.D and Marigudi. One day Durgi tries to step out from colony to finish those fellows but she is noticed by Commisioner Shankar who thinks that she has any mental problems. Unable to control her anger, Durgi and master makes a plan to kill Marigudi's brother Naga. Marigudi had made illegal papers to make Naga as an independent candidate against Rahul. J.D uses his influence and money power to make his son as a candidate. On the nomination day, Marigudi's car gets blasted which leads to the death of four men. None other than Marigudi, who blasts the car to make everyone believe that J.D is behind this and also to acquire both public support and vote for Naga. Naga is admitted to hospital by Marigudi to make believe the public that the former is in a critical stage. They also plan to fabricate a drama against a media in which Naga is dead. But danger is in front of them where Durgi and Master is making to get inside the hospital but due to the Police security of Commissioner she can't enter there. She cuts her hand and enters there and Master tells commissioner that she accidentally did it. She enters the ICU and brutally kills Naga in the absence of Marigudi. Marigudi takes media to ICU and states that Naga is in a coma stage without knowing that he is not alive. Marigudi gets devastated after knowing about his murder and thinks that J.D did this. Enraged Marigudi vows revenge to finish J.D and his son.

Durgi next targets J.D's son Rahul who is going to be the next candidate. Marigudi's henchmen spotted him and chases him to a theatre where Durgi enters silently and kills him. Commissioner came their to take Rahul but he is found dead in the toilet. To catch the culprit Commissioner makes everyone in the theatre to go line by line. Both Durgi and master goes separately or else the Commissioner gets doubt of seeing the duo. To save Durgi, Master commits suicide by getting shock. Seeing suspicious on Master's death Commissioner gets to know that Durgi is the killer of both Rahul and Naga. Commissioner enquires about Durgi in her colony. Durgi enters there and narrates her story to Commissioner. Durgi is an illiterate woman who resides in Durgapura near Madikeri . She is loved by all in her village. She was living happily with her father Ramappa (Ramesh Bhat), her younger sister Ninky and her grandmother. One day J.D and Marigudi came to Durgapura with the idea of constructing Sugarcane factory. To initiate the plan, both Naga and Rahul came to the village who were spoilt brats. On the way they flirts with Durgi but she gets angered and goes to beat them. The caretaker of Guest house stops Durgi and tells that they are new in the village. After seeing Durgi's beauty both Rahul and Naga tries to approach her. Durgi's father enters there and also arrange food for them which will be delivered by Durgi. The duo plans to abuse Durgi when she enters with food but unfortunately her sister Ninky came there. Both of them raped Ninky and throwed her in the river. After knowing this incident enraged Durgi goes to finish them but they are missing. To save their children from the rape case, Marigudi and J.D goes to see the condition of Ninky. They bribes the doctor and kills Ninky who is alive in the raped condition. On the process, they also kills her father who tries to stop them. Devastated Durgi gets alone after seeing the dead body of both her father and sister. Durgi, her grandmother, master and villagers suit case against them with the help of M.L.A where it is revealed that the post mortem report has been changed by the doctor on the ordering of J.D and Marigudi. Durgi murders the doctor in front of everyone. Police officer arrests Durgi and takes her to a place other than Jail. The policeman reveals the truth that Ninky was murdered by J.D because she was alive on that day. They killed her due to the fear of identifying both Rahul and Naga. They also kills her father who was trying to stop them.

Police officer encourages Durgi to finish all of them who had did injustice to her. Durgi escapes from there but he shoots her to save J.D and Marigudi. J.D shoots the policeman and states that Durgi and Policeman shot face to face. After hearing Durgi's story Commissioner wants to help her and also promised that he will bring both J.D and Marigudi in the front of law. Durgi doesn't believes there law and vanishes from there. Durgi saves J.D from Marigudi and kills him in front of the colony residents. She also brutally kills Marigudi. Commissioner saw the murder but he don't charge against the case after seeing her pain and sorrowful life. Durgi and her grandmother goes back to their village and lives happily.

This film marks the directional debut of actor cum dubbing artist P. Ravi Shankar. Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani was chosen as the antagonist which marks his debut in Kannada Cinema. Tamil actor Raghuvaran was chosen to portray the role of second antagonist. This film was the comeback of Malashri after a hiatus of 4 years.

The soundtrack was composed by Hamsalekha and lyrics are also written by him. The audio is released by Jhankar music.
