hatnote

A hatnote is a small note positioned at the top of an article.

A hatnote may be used to help the reader to help them find the right page, in most cases. Hatnotes are written in italics. (like this: Hello!). Readers may have been found at an article with a hatnote because:

  • They have been redirected
  • They are looking for a more specific article, such as a disambiguation.
  • They are looking for an article that has a similar name with another article.

Hatnotes help readers find the right article using a link or disambiguation.
