Vladimir Makanin: Russian writer

Vladimir Semyonovich Makanin (Russian: Владимир Семёнович Маканин; 13 March 1937 – 1 November 2017) was a Russian writer.

He was born in Orsk, Soviet Union. In 1963 he took a course in script-writing, and then worked in the publishing house Sovietskiy Pisatel (The Soviet Writer). Makanin's writing style may be categorized as realist. In 2012, he won the European Prize for Literature.

He was specialized in short stories and novels.

Makanin died on 1 November 2017 in Krasny, Russia at the age of 80.
