Thomas Harris: American author and screenwriter

William Thomas Harris III (born September 22, 1940) is an American writer.

He is best known for a series of suspense novels about his most famous character, Hannibal Lecter.

Harris wrote Black Sunday (1975), Red Dragon (1981), The Silence of the Lambs (1988), Hannibal (1999), Hannibal Rising (2006) and Cari Mora (2019). Most of his works have been made into movies and television shows. The most notable is The Silence of the Lambs (1991), which became only the third movie in Academy Awards history to sweep the Oscars in major categories.

Harris was born in Jackson, Tennessee. As a child, he moved with his family to Rich, Mississippi. He was married to Harriet Anne Haley from 1961 to 1967. They had a daughter, Elizabeth Anne. His long-term domestic partner is Pace Barnes. Harris did not give any interviews between 1976 and 2019.
