Sunset: Daily disappearance of the Sun below the western half of the horizon

A sunset, which in some American dialects is called a sundown, is the time where the Sun goes below the horizon to the West.

It is not dusk, which is the point when darkness begins, which can be sometime after the Sun sets, this begins twilight. The opposite of the sunset is the sunrise.
