Steve Wilhite: American theoretical computer scientist

Stephen Earl Wilhite (March 3, 1948 – March 14, 2022) was an American computer scientist.

He worked at CompuServe and was the engineering lead on the team that created the GIF image file format. He won a Webby Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. He was born in West Chester Township, Ohio.

Wilhite died of COVID-19 at a hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 14, 2022, eleven days after his 74th birthday.
