Public Service Announcement: Message in the public interest, often disseminated as a free advertisement

A public service announcement (PSA) is a message given to the public about issues without charge.

The goal is raising awareness of, and changing public opinion towards, a social issue. In the UK, they are generally called 'public information films' (PIFs). They became popular during World War II.
