Persistent Vegetative State: Disorder of consciousness caused by severe brain damage

A persistent vegetative state is what happens when a person in a coma becomes somewhat aware of what is happening around them.

However, they have little or no control over their body. Most people who are in a PVS cannot live without medicine or machinery, such as a ventilator.
