Marietta Giannakou: Greek politician

Marietta Giannakou (Greek: Μαριέττα Γιαννάκου, 6 June 1951 – 27 February 2022) was a Greek politician.

She was a member of the New Democracy Party. Giannakou was born in Geraki Lakonias, Greece. From 2004 until 2007, she was the Minister of Education. Giannakou was a Member of the European Parliament from 2009 until 2014.

In January 2022, Giannakou was hospitalized in Athens, Greece after falling from her wheelchair and suffering a subdural hematoma. She died of a heart attack on 27 February 2022, aged 70.
