Jesús Franco: Spanish film director

Jesús Jess Franco (Jesús Franco Manera; 12 May 1930 – 2 April 2013) was a Spanish movie director, screenwriter, cinematographer, and actor.

His directing career began with the 1961 movie The Awful Dr. Orloff. He was known for his more than 160 movies including Necronomicon (1967), A Virgin Among the Living Dead (1971) and two Christopher Lee movies, The Bloody Judge and Count Dracula. Many of his films were pornographic in nature, and most of them were never dubbed in English.

Franco was born on 12 May 1930 in Madrid, Spain. He was married to Nicole Guettard from 1962 to 1980, and to Lina Romay from 2008 until his death 2013. He had no children. Franco died on 2 April 2013 in a hospital in Málaga, Spain from a stroke, aged 82.
