Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition: Research expedition to Antarctica, led by Ernest Shackleton

The Imperial Trans-Antarctic expedition of 1914–1917 is seen as the last major expedition of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration.

It was led by Sir Ernest Shackleton. The expedition was an attempt to make the first land crossing of the Antarctic continent. Shackleton's expedition failed when his ship, Endurance sank.
