Ichnogenus: Taxon based on the fossilized work of an organism

An ichnogenus is a trace fossil.

The names are a category of taxonomy for fossil traces whose origin is not exactly known. They are a part of taxonomy called ichnology.

Very common trace fossils are dinosaur trackways and fossil burrows of worm-like creatures in ancient sea floors.
