Eric Hank Gathers (February 11, 1967–March 4, 1990) was an American basketball player that played for Loyola Marymount University where he was a breakout star.
Gathers originally played at the University of Southern California before transferring to Loyola Marymount University with his teammate Bo Kimble. He died on March 4, 1990, after he collapsed on the court after making an alley-oop dunk. He was reported as saying "I don't want to lay down!" before he stopped breathing and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital from problems caused by ventricular tachycardia caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He also collapsed at the free-throw line during an LMU home game on December 9, 1989 before. His life was featured in a 1992 TV movie, Final Shot: The Hank Gathers Story and in an ESPN film called Guru of Go for their 30 for 30 sries.
