Elza da Conceição Soares, known professionally as Elza Soares (Brazilian Portuguese: ; 23 June 1930 – 20 January 2022) was a Brazilian samba and bossa nova singer.
In 1999, she was named Singer of the Millennium with Tina Turner by BBC Radio. Soares was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her career began in 1950. In 2015, she released her best known album A mulher do fim do mundo. In 2002, Soares was nominated for a Grammy Award.
In 2007, Soares was diagnosed with diverticulitis and had many surgeries. She died on 20 January 2022 at her home in Rio de Janeiro from natural causes, aged 91.
