David Starkey: British constitutional historian

David Starkey CBE FSA (born 3 January 1945) is a British historian.

He is also a presenter on television and radio. His main topic is the British Royal Family.

Starkey was born in Kendal, Westmorland. He studied at Kendal Grammar School and at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, where he gained a PhD. In the early 1970s he moved to London, where he became a teacher.

Starkey's television work includes: The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Monarchy by David Starkey, The Tudors, Henry VIII: The Mind of a Tyrant and The Churchills.

Personal life

Starkey lives in Highgate, London and Kent. He is an atheist. He is openly gay and lived with his partner James Brown. James Brown died in 2015.
