A commentary often means some sort of voice that will explain what is going on while a program is playing.
Commentary is most often used in sports. Some famous commentators are Jim Ross, Larry Merchant, Jesse Ventura, Navjot Singh Sidhu and Gorilla Monsoon.
A commentary can mean comments, spoken or written, which help people understand a book, play or work of art.
