Alentejo: Geographical, historical and cultural region of Portugal

Alentejo (UK: /ˌælənˈteɪʒuː/ AL-ən-TAY-zhoo, Portuguese:  (listen)) is a region of south–central and southern Portugal.

In Portuguese, its name means "beyond (além) the Tagus river" (Tejo).
