Launched on November 17, 2003, the steid haes the statit aim o providin an encyclopedia for "fowk wi different needs, such as students, childer, adults wi learnin difficulties an fowk who are tryin tae learn Inglis". As o Juin, 2013, the steid contains ower 100,000 content pages, an haes mair nor 293,000 registered uisers, o whom 775 are currently active.
