Born in Glesga, McDermott muived wi his faimily tae Willowdale, Ontario, Canadae in 1965. Growin up in a muisical faimily, his anly formal muisical trainin wis at St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, Ontario in 1971 an 1972.
