Ser terra de Pedro Álvares Cabral. É o que faz Belmonte mais consciente e orgulhosa do seu valor, história e cultura. O povo reclama-o e toma-o como seu. Convém notar que, para o povo de Belmonte, Cabrais são Cabrais e Pedro Álvares Cabral é algo a parte, é “ o Pedro”. Assim lhe chama o povo, como se fosse seu, e é. Como também o são a imagem da Senhora da Esperança que o acompanhou na descoberta do Brasil e o Castelo onde nasceu. É claro que, com a descoberta do Brasil por Pedro Álvares Cabral, Belmonte sente também como sua a glória - que até políticos e reis demoraram a perceber - de terem feito a maior descoberta de Portugal: o Brasil. Esta é a terra de gente tão heróica e esforçada como os grandes heróis que aqui nasceram e daqui partiram. É uma história que está no sangue da gente. É uma história que ainda se pode ler nas ruas, na gente, nas lendas, e mesmo nas crónicas e na própria história, apesar de, por norma, esta só se referir a grandes factos e seus protagonistas. E a estátua que Pedro Álvares Cabral tem em Belmonte, curiosamente, não está virada para o mar, nem para o belo vale do rio Zêzere.
