Rhine Franconian, (German: Rheinfränkisch) is a West Central German group of dialects, including the Hessian Dialects (Northern, Central, Eastern and Southern Hessian), Palatine German, Lorraine Franconian and South Franconian, which are spoken in the German states of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, Saarland and the French regions of Lorraine and Alsace.
Pennsylvania German or Pennsylvania Dutch is descended primarily from the Palatine German dialects spoken by Germans who immigrated to North America from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries and who chose to maintain their native language.
