Why do people waste so much time on fake languages?

Ido is not a "fake" language. Although it is not spoken in any country, it has a full set of grammatical rules. It is constructed, not fake. Furthermore, Ido was constructed to address a very important need in the world today: the need for an international second language. Obviously, people in different countries speak different languages. Recently, the world has become increasingly globalized, an these language barriers have become a problem. Natural languages (ones that evolved: French, English, Russian, German, etc.) can be very difficult to learn, due to idioms, grammatical inconsistencies, and the like. For this reason, a number of languages have been constructed. These are called "international auxiliary languages" or IAL's for short. Ido is one of these languages. Some constructed languages, like Ido, have no exceptions to their grammatical rules. They have also been formed with the knowledge that foreigners will be learning them, so the vocabulary shares roots that many people already know. They are thus much easier to learn than natural languages. Ido happens to be the only language of its kind (the only IAL) which was developed by a team of professional linguists. These languages are very similar. So we need an article in other Wikipedias which shows the differences so that interstested people get a suggestion about ist. That would be very nice.

@German speaking guys: Have a look at the article "Unterschiede zwischen den serbokroatischen Standardvarietäten". That is what I mean according to the missing article "Gegenüberstellung von Esperanto und Ido". So I hope here is an Esperantist who likes to make it. On the English Wikipedia, we started a project called TAFI. Each week we identify underdeveloped articles that require improvement. Our goal is to use widespread collaborative editing to improve articles to Good article, Featured article or Featured list quality over a short time frame.

This is all about improving important articles in a collaborative manner, and also inspiring readers of Wikipedia to also try editing. We think it is a very important and interesting idea that will make Wikipedia a better place to work. It has been very successful so far, and the concept has spread to the Hindi Wiki where it has been well received.

The Movement Charter Drafting Committee (MCDC) will propose a ratification methodology for the future Movement Charter on April 10, 2023. The proposed ratification methodology is a result of learnings from previous ratification processes.

Hello everyone,

The Wiki Foundation elections committee (Elections Committee) is, from today until April 24, seeking an additional 2–4 members to help facilitate the Wiki Foundation Board of Trustee (Board) selection process.

The 2024 Wiki Foundation Board of Trustees election is being planned. New members are invited to join the Elections Committee. The Elections Committee oversees the Board of Trustees community seat selection process. Join the committee and contribute your valuable skills and ideas to the Trustee selection process.

There are eight community- and affiliate-selected seats on the Wiki Foundation Board. The wider Wiki community votes for community members to occupy these seats. In 2024, the Elections Committee will oversee this selection process for the community- and affiliate-selected seats with expiring terms. This process will be supported by the Wiki Foundation.

Elections Committee members sign up for three-year terms and will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement. Members can expect to contribute 2–5 hours per week before the selection process and 5–8 hours per week during the selection process.

As an Elections Committee member, you will be responsible for:

• Attending online meetings between now and the next election (mid-2024)
• Attending onboarding and online training in May–June 2023
• Working with the Committee to fulfill its other responsibilities

New members should have the following qualities:

• Fluency in English
• Responsiveness to email collaboration
• Knowledge of the movement and movement governance

Hello,

The Movement Charter Drafting Committee has concluded its first community review of the methodology draft, which will be used to ratify the Movement Charter in 2024.

This community review included feedback collection on Meta, on the Movement Strategy forum as well as two conversation hours with communities and one conversation with the Committees of the Wiki projects. MCDC greatly appreciates everyone's input. The recording of the ratification methodology presentation is here and documentation can be accessed here. The timeline of the next steps of the methodology is provided here.

The WMF support team will produce a report on the community input in May. MCDC will incorporate the feedback and share an updated version of the ratification methodology in August 2023. The MCDC will continue to outreach to stakeholders regarding the updated methodology in late 2023.
